Weekend round up (1st and 8th October)

The First team difficult start to life in division 2 with an agonising last minute defeat at Aberdare. Tries from Sam Montague and Dan Savager had put the Illts into a comfortable half time lead at 16-5, the home side fought back but the Illts led 19-18 as the game drew to a close only for the home team to kick a penalty with the last play of the game to snatch a 21-19 win. A bitter pill to swallow, but a much improved performance and with more boys available for selection the boys should be able to turn the corner.

On Sunday the under 8s and under 7s travelled to Pontyclun for a very well run festival. Despite being short of several players, the kids played some great rugby throughout and really enjoyed themselves.

This week, no game for the first team as we have a bye in the Swalec Plate. The second team travel to Dinas Powys for a friendly on saturday. On sunday the Under 8s are home to Llanrumney while the other minis train and the under 16s travel to Cwmbran under the new coaching team of Matt Banner and Mike Davies. Everyone at the club would like to thank Andrew Thomason for all the work he has done with this age group over the last 5 years, he is taking a break due to work comittments this season and hopefully the new coaches can continue his good work. Thanks Andrew!

Finally, the club has a number of Old Illtydian golf umbrellas available to purchase for £15 - contact Andrew Maunder for details.
