Weekend round up 7/8 October

The Illts moved into the third round of the Bowl, but were made to work hard by visitors Toneyrefail. A disappointing first half performance saw the Illts lead 10-5 at the break with an early Aaron Biddle try and 5 points from the boot of outside half Sean Cochlin. The Illts continued to struggle for fluency in the second half but put there game together in patches and scored some fine tries, with a second from Biddle, one from Benon Kizza and a brace from Cochlin securing the win, Cochlin having affine day with the boot finishing with 21 points in total. Highlight of the game was the 4th try, after some great handling released skipper Mike Hiscocks for a 50 metre run, he offloaded off the deck to prop Marley Lovell who had covered an incredible amount of ground in support and was able to give the final pass to Cochlin to crash over. Excellent debuts for youngsters Conor Corrigan and Sean Cowan in the 36-10 win.

The youth played their first game of the season against a much older and bigger Pontypool United team and lost but stuck to the task throughout, well done boys, better days to come
