Coaching team 2016-17

Last seasons head coach Matt Silva is moving on, taking up an opportunity to be head coach for Premiership side Bridgend Ravens. While this is disappointing for the club, an opportunity to be head coach at Premiership level within the Ospreys region is too good for Matt to turn down and underlines what a quality coach he is. Everyone at the Illts would like to thank Matt for his hard work over the last season, which ultimately resulted in promotion to Division 2. His energy and enthusiasm, the quality of his sessions and his story telling and humour over a pint will all be missed by the boys. I hope Bridgend have a Thursday club after training, there will always be a welcome on Splott Bridge Silv!

Dai Griffiths will be moving up from forwards coach to Head Coach/Director of Rugby. Grippa has been a great asset so far with his meticulous planning, commitment and energy and he will continue to drive the team forwards this season.

Assisting Dai as player coaches will be Lee Highgate in the forwards and Matthew Banner in the backs. Lee is an excellent back row forward with considerable experience with Glamorgan Wanderers, he is also a level 2 coach who coached Caerau last season. Welcome to the Illts Lee! Matt Banner has been with the Illts since 2013 and has been a consistent performer in midfield. He will develop his coaching skills under Grippa while continued to provide focus and direction in the centre.
