Old Illts 2s picked up a second win of the season away at Llandaff on Saturday. With the home team struggling for numbers, the Illts ended up playing a combined Llandaff and Llanishen second team, making the 35 - 24 win they picked up even more notable. The game was played at Cardiff Met next door to Llandaff, and despite a strong wind the pitch was in good nick and there wasnt any rain.
The Illts played against the elements first half and wre quickly into their stride, a bust by centre Neil Dallimore setting up the field position for Dai Jones to bundle over. Dalli added one himslef shortly after powering over from close range, Stan converting both for a 14-0 lead. The home side struck back after exploting a gap left at a ruck, but a sparklig individual try from Keyh Seruyange again goaled by Stan gae the illts a 21-5 lead. The home side kept coming and added a second before the break, 21-12 to the Illts at half time.
In the second period, second row Alex crashed over from short range, capping an excellent debut where he carried strongly. Stan added the final try himself after a beautiful exchange of pases with Dalli, making up for the interception he threw earlier. Llandaff dominated the closing stages as the bigger squad and younger legs told, but great Illts defence saw only 1 try conceded to cap an excellent win.
Some cracking performances, but special shouts to Briney for unusual defensive moves (throwing up over people), Kevin for some great tackles and some excellent ball carrying from
Huw and Alex. Behind the scrum Dan Griffiths had an excellent game and Keith Seruyange looked a real threat throughout, and the midfield axis of Stanni (15 points) an Dalli were a class apart.
Great win boys well done
