Summer update

It's been a long time since we had any news to update so there is quite a bit to pack in!

Rugby update

All age groups are now back in training, with elements of contact allowed since the start of May and being re-introduced on a phased basis, in line with WRU guidelines. Our minis and juniors have played several touch and tag matches, and the seniors are training once a week at the moment, on a Thursday at 6.30 at Moorland Park.

The current intention is to continue training through May and June with the possibility of contact fixtures in June.

As ever we are looking to recruit at all ages, so if you have a child interested, please see the list of training times and contacts below

Kit supplier

We have moved to Macron as our kit supplier from the 21/22 season onwards linking in with the excellent incentivised kit offer the WRU have provided as part of the sponsorship deal with Macron. You can purchase Old Illtydian training and leisure wear from the club shop, items will be delivered in 2-3 weeks, links to the kids and adult club shops are below

Kids - Old Illtydians RFC > Kids (macronstorecardiff.co.uk)

Adults - Old Illtydians RFC > Adults (macronstorecardiff.co.uk)

In terms of the playing kits, in fairness to our sponsors for this year who have paid and barely seen the shirts with their names on used, we will be keeping the existing kits for each age group and the seniors for the 2021-22 season (the first half of the season at least, the rate some of the kids are growing we may need to change in the new year!)

Our u7s next season will be the first team in the club to wear Macron stash, and as kits are replaced we will use Macron going forward.

Facilities update

Work continues on the container at Moorland Park, when the new season starts we should have the kitchen unit fully installed serving hot drinks and bacon rolls for all matches on Saturdays and Sundays. Thank you to Splott Volunteers who will be providing the kitchen labour, we are delighted to be able to work with you in partnership and continue to support your fantastic charitable work in the Library.

The club is also delighted to announce that we have successfully secured a Sports Wales Grant to purchase 2 mobile floodlight units, which will enable us to conduct training at Moorland Park during the winter months. With winter training pitch hire and availability scarce (and costly), and with ever growing numbers in our mini section, this is a great step forward for the club. A huge thank you to Sport Wales for the grant and Lauren Holloway from the WRU development team for assistance with the application. Diolch!
