The illts secured a 7th straight league win with a comfortable derby win at canton.the illts played against a very strong wind in first half,and despite dominating only led 17-9 at half time as the home side kicked 3 long range penalties.the illts responded with 2 tries from no 8 Tom wheeler,one from a pushover and one all his own work as he powered over with the home full back hanging off him.second row Andrew maunder also scored,finishing some lovely inter passing with a dummy to crash over.
The illts secured the bonus point when wheeler completed his hattrick from another dominant scrum.the illts scrum had been a potent weapon but became an Achilles heel when Adam Taylor's pony back went. Canton managed to exert some pressure and a missed tackle allowed a converted try from a 5m scrum which brought the score to 22-16.
Lewis mills stepped up to fill in at prop,which shored up the scrum and allowed wheeler to collect his personal bonus point,before the no 8 eventually passed one to allow Henry Mitchell to score the final try.
There were some excellent performances aside from wheelers one man show, with props Taylor and harris prominent and hooker stu Wilby very lively round the field. Lewis mills produced a number of barnstorming carries.Behind the scrum Sam Perrett continued his injury comeback with a tidy display at 9 and makeshift winger James harris again played well. Outside half dewi Williams controlled well with centres Jim Sheridan and matt banner both rock solid in defence and dangerous in attack.
The illts take on high flying llantwit major at moorland park next week.
